The University of New Haven has offered for several years a course called sport by the numbers and has an MS with a concentration in Sport Analytics. Our focus is not on the players (except to determine their financial value or marketability), but more on functional business areas. There is a lot more to sport analytics then putting the right team on the field or determining the best way to market to fans. Analytics go to cutting costs across the organization, monitoring facility operations, determining the right mix of concession items, evaluating all employees, determining potential legal strategies, and numerous other functional areas. That is why analytics is so important and why so many people consider sport analytics to be just a small part of the broader business analytics sector.
